almotamar.net - Yemen has called for concentrating efforts at the regional and international levels in order to eradicate marine piracy which endangers national security.
This was mentioned in Yemen speech at the UAE Counter-Piracy Conference which was launched Wednesday in Dubai delivered by Foreign Minister Jamal al-Sallal.
Al-Sallal reviewed the negative consequences of maritime piracy on Yemen and its direct threats on the national security of Yemen.
�Yemen suffers economically, socially and security-wise from this phenomenon in the Gulf of Aden in addition to the many challenges coinciding with maritime piracy since it has direct threats on the national security,� said Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs Jamal al-Sallal.
He affirmed the importance of finding out permanent and comprehensive solutions which include integrated political, economic, and security vision to get rid of this phenomenon.
Foreign Minister pointed out that maritime piracy worsened sufferings of the Yemeni fishermen due to their exposure to recurring kidnapping, arrest and killing, in addition to confiscation of their boats and properties.
Marine piracy in the Gulf of Aden led to the prevalence of serious security challenges such as the spread of weapons, people, drugs and goods smuggling, according to the Minister.
He also talked about Yemen�s efforts in combating terrorism as well as maritime piracy problem in relation to financing extremist groups.
